The gate box itself does not open. It is a single piece of metal, formed to the right size to accommodate your lock.
Gateboxes will work with any of our locks that have a 2-3/8" setback—even our single or double-sided locks.
Gateboxes come pre-drilled to exactly fit your new lock. The lock spindle and support pins go right through the openings. The round holes at the top and bottom of the box are for the lock’s machine screws. These are used to hold the front and back of the lock together and on the gatebox.
Gateboxes come in two types. One made of heavy-duty steel (14 gauge) with a mill finish, the other is made of aluminum (.125). Choose the material that matches what your new fence and gate are made of.
All gateboxes come with 2-3/8" backset, so be sure to specify a 2-3/8" backset when ordering your lock.
Gateboxes are often used on pool gates, back yard fences, beach gates, dumpster's gates, storage gates, driveway entrances, or any place that needs a super-strong surface of just the right height, width, and thickness.
The 1150, 1150DC, 1600, 1600DC locks with the magnetic latchbolt are not compatible with the Gatebox without some adjustments.
