In a surface-mount application, the surface mount sleeve goes over the lock. Then the lock mounts on the outside of the cabinet. The screws are then inserted through the door and into the back of the lock to hold it on to the cabinet door.
In a flush-mount application, the lock is inserted into a hole that is cut out of the cabinet door using the template provided. The lock body goes through the hole in the cabinet door as far as it will go, up to the flange. Then, the flush-fit clamp box is positioned on the inside of the cabinet door and attached to the lock body with screws from the inside to hold the lock on the door.
