Surface-mounted keypad locks are locks that do not require a bolt to be mortised (inserted) into the door on the edge. While most door locks require a cylindrical mortised bolt, surface-mount door locks have a slider bar, a hook bolt, or even a cam that engages a special strike plate mounted onto the frame surrounding a door.
