Non-Marine Environments

  • For best results, all Lockey mechanical keypad locks should be cleaned and lubricated to keep them working properly even if they are not going to be exposed to salt.

  • Be sure to use the manufacturer's approved lubricant, which is Super Lube and follow the installation instructions included in the box with each lock.

  • Proper maintenance will extend the lifetime of your lock significantly. When properly maintained, Lockey says their products have lasted up to 25 years even in harsh marine environments!

Marine Environments

  • Regular maintenance is especially important when a lock is going to be used in a marine environment where it is exposed to seawater or even just salt spray in the air from the ocean or roadways treated with salt. Salt can ruin EVERYTHING! For marine environments, be sure to purchase a Lockey mechanical keypad lock with a marine-grade finish. Also, clean and maintain your lock regularly with the manufacturer's approved lubricant Super Lube.

  • For Lockey mechanical keypad locks with an external metal hook bolt or slide bar which will be exposed to salt, be sure to regularly wash the exposed metal with clean water and lubricate it with Super Lube.

How and Where to Apply

  • Super Lube should be applied to:
    • The buttons on the keypad
    • The holes that contain the red, blue, or silver tumblers
    • The moving parts inside the hole where the spindle (aka tail piece) goes through from the outside of the door to the inside
  • After application:
    • Manually operate the lock components repeatedly to ensure the lubricant has coated all moving surfaces.
    • If the buttons on the keypad are sticking after application of the lubricant, it usually means there is an alignment problem, so check the lock's alignment. If there is a centering pin for the lock model you have, be sure that it is installed properly. Refer to the instructions that came with the lock for images and details of the centering pin installation.
  • IMPORTANT:
    • Do NOT use WD-40 or any other non-synthetic lubricant, as it will gum up the parts.
    • Do NOT remove the plate that is secured with silver screws on the inside lock body, as this will void the warranty.
